No Fail Green Smoothie

A few weeks ago, I thought I’d venture into the world of the green smoothie. How hard could it be to whirl up some green goodness? Well, I put in too much green love and not enough sweetness to compensate. In fact, it was downright bitter. Can we say epic fail?

After some research, I came across a helpful infographic courtesy of Vitamix that deconstructed the green smoothie. But, as I’m a compulsive recipe tweaker, I couldn’t help but change it up. The result? A luscious, refreshing green smoothie.

Thanks to my colleague and friend, Carol Harrison, I added some avocado to my smoothie. You see, as much as I know that avocadoes are super healthy, I can’t handle the texture. She suggested the smoothie route, and presto, it worked. Thanks Carol!

No Fail Green Smoothie


  • 2 cups unsweetened coconut water
  • 1 cup spinach
  • 5 prunes or dates
  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 2 tbsp nut butter (e.g. peanut or almond butter)
  • 1/2 cup ice cubes


  1. Place all ingredients into Vitamix/blender.
  2. Whirl.
  3. Enjoy.
